Eight E-book reader in the test: The most expensive is the worst - E-book reader prevail slowly, steadily growing sales figures show. With their easy handling, very good image quality and tagheller background illumination, they are reading E-books in the advantage of notebooks or Tablet PCs. Stiftung Warentest tested eight readers of the new generation, including two exotics, which want to score points with an open Android as the operating system.

Who wants to buy an E-book reader, must be for one of two competing copy protection systems decide. Six of the tested devices support the copy protection from Adobe, two from Amazon. In both camps, a reader creates the best grade "very good", so that buyers can choose freely.

Most expensive reader is the worst
The worst cuts off the most expensive reader in the test. For 320 euros, the reader with the 9.7-inch "Icarus"Excel receives while much picture for the money, but the image quality is only satisfactory, also handling is just adequate, and the weight too high.
Manufacturer of Icarus belongs to those who provide their E-book reader with an open Android system for the user. In theory this is a good idea: so users can install the Kindl apps from Amazon and read books from both copy protection systems on a device. In practice, the implementation at the two tested models of Icarus succeeded but little Icarus.

Although the reading in the bathtub should be popular, only two of the test candidates are proof: the Talukder vision 2 and the Kobo aura H2O survived in the laboratory a half-hour water bath without damage
